Corbett vs. Dempsey presents…

Sequesterfest (Vol. 2)

Saturday, April 18th, 2020, 2-5:30pm (Central Daylight Time)

Featuring: Torbjörn Zetterberg, Moreno Veloso, Ab Baars & Ig Henneman, Zeena Parkins, Mats Gustafsson, Susana Santos Silva, Thurston Moore

Dedicated to Hal Willner (1956-2020).

The second manifestation of Sequesterfest will consist of an afternoon of creative music from around the world.  Part of the Quarantine Concert series hosted by Chicago’s Experimental Sound Studio, this event features an illustrious lineup of improvisors, composers, and songsmiths.  As the virus has mandated a rethinking of the social dimension of our lives, so too is it requiring adaptation and inventive response, suggesting a new paradigm for “chamber” music.  Performing remotely, the eight artists participating in Sequesterfest Vol. 2 invite the audience into their homes, generously lifting the veil that separates the public and private.  For a month now, we have grown more distant.  Gloves.  Masks.  Screens.  Yet we are allowed in to one another’s intimate spaces.  We are closer together.  This is a unique privilege of our present moment and we don’t take it for granted.  In seven sets, each a half-hour long, Thurston Moore, Ab Baars, Ig Henneman, Torbjörn Zetterberg, Susana Santos Silva, Mats Gustafsson, Zeena Parkins, and Moreno Veloso will call down the community spirit, communing in virtual space with an audience that consists at once of nobody and everyone, resonating their chambers, sending out vibrations that are, by their very nature, no matter how noisy or harsh, built of optimism and trust.  Nice way to spend a Saturday.

CvsD is proud to be associated with the ESS team, who surmount tech obstacles so you don’t have to.  Like all the Quarantine Concerts, Sequesterfest Vol. 2 is viewable by means of Twitch or on the ESS website.  Donations are requested on a sliding scale – as much as you can afford, as little as you are able – and all proceeds go 100% to the musicians or to their designated redirect.  Explore all the Quarantine Concerts, past and future – there’s gold in them there hills.  And the archived performances of Sequesterfest Vol. 1 will soon be available on the ESS website.  Start with Joe McPhee’s incantatory basement set – now that is underground music!

Corbett vs. Dempsey presents…

Sequesterfest (Vol. 1)

Monday, April 6th, 7-10pm (Central Standard Time)

Featuring: Ken Vandermark, Arto Lindsay, Ikue Mori, Joe McPhee, David Grubbs, Claire Chase

As part of the Quarantine Concerts, a herculean live-stream series hosted by Experimental Sound Studio, Corbett vs. Dempsey is pleased to present the first incarnation of Sequesterfest, an evening of creative music.  This event features an all-star lineup of improvisers, composers, and contemporary music performers, a virtual marquee assembled in unity of spirit during a time of unparalleled global weirdness and alienation.  In its maiden voyage, Sequesterfest will feature six sets, each half-hour long, viewable by means of Twitch or on the ESS website.  Donations are requested on a sliding scale – as much as you can afford, as little as you are able – and all proceeds go 100% to the musicians or to their designated redirect.  CvsD has been deeply inspired by the optimism represented by the Quarantine Concerts, and we are proud to be associated with the ESS team in this joint endeavor.  There’s been heightened recognition recently of the perils of the gig economy and the challenges facing those whose income is dependent on it.  Musicians invented the gig economy.  They play gigs.  We took the word from them.  And live music is not only their livelihood, it’s their whole lives.  Sequesterfest is an opportunity to hear these brilliant musicians, a round-up that would have seemed nearly impossible – or would have required a trip to a remote festival village somewhere in Austria – until now.  And to support these intrepid gigging artists.  Hey now, captive audience, reduce the social distance – join us, tell your friends to join us, tell them to tell their friends, and don’t forget to donate!

Stay tuned for specifics on Sequesterfest (Vol. 2), which will take place in the afternoon on Saturday, April 18th.
